Clear Prices. No minimums.

We bill on a time and materials basis for the actual time a project takes. We're happy to provide estimates at no charge and can work with you to stay within your budget.

Standard rate

$105 /hour

Applies to web development, SEO implementation, computer support, network services and general consulting. Billed for actual time worked, not rounded.

We are always happy to provide a verbal or written estimate before work begins, and to flag it early if a project is running longer than expected. Fixed-price quotes are available for well-defined scopes.

Travel

No travel charge in Washington, DC or immediately adjacent parts of Maryland or Virginia. Further afield, we will quote travel expenses upfront. If your timing is flexible, site visits can often be arranged alongside existing travel, which removes most of the cost.

Emergency rate: $250

Flat fee covers up to 30 minutes of work on a genuine emergency, with additional time at the standard hourly rate. It only applies to time-critical requests needing intervention within six hours, and we will always get your explicit agreement before starting.

SEO audit: $850 flat

The one piece of project work with a published fixed price. You get the written, prioritized report for that fee regardless of how long it takes us. Implementing what it finds is billed at the standard hourly rate.

Static Site Hosting $20/yr $20/yr For statically generated sites — Astro, Hugo, Eleventy or plain HTML. Global CDN delivery, SSL, DNS and deployments. There is no database or plugin stack to keep patched, so there is almost nothing to maintain, and the price reflects that. A care plan is neither needed nor sold alongside it.

Site resource consumption depends on traffic and website specifics, so we will confirm hosting rates after reviewing your particular site. Almost all sites fit within the above plans. Content changes and new development are not included in either plan and are billed at $105/hr; we can also arrange a fixed monthly package if you have a predictable amount of change work.

Questions about billing

When do you start billing?
When the conversation moves from introductions and scoping - learning about your project and goals, and whether the project is a good fit - to solutioning: making formal recommendations on the best path forward and what specific technologies will meet your needs. We will always let you know before billing on a project starts. Typically, this occurs after our first introductory phone call, but it varies on a project by project basis.
Will you give me an estimate before starting?
Always, if you want one. We are happy to provide a verbal or written estimate before a project begins, and to give you updates on how it is tracking as work progresses. If something is going to run over, you will hear about it while there is still time to make a decision.
Can I get a fixed price instead of hourly?
Yes, for projects where the scope is well defined and changes will be limited. Fixed pricing requires more work upfront to define what is included, and it necessarily carries a margin for risk — which is why hourly is usually cheaper for the client. We will tell you which we think fits your project.
How can I keep the cost down?
Ask. We are always happy to make recommendations on how to keep a project within a budget. Many times there are simple tweaks that can be made to speed development. Other tips include gathering your content before development starts, consolidating feedback into a single thread, and keeping changes to a minimum once a project starts.
Do you charge for travel?
Not within Washington, DC or the parts of Maryland or Virginia immediately adjacent to DC. For further travel in the region we provide an estimate covering time and expenses. For travel further afield, actual costs are quoted upfront and appear on the final invoice along with a provision for time. If your schedule is flexible, we can sometimes arrange site visits alongside existing travel, which significantly reduces costs.
How and when do you invoice?
Project work is invoiced after completion, or at intervals for longer engagements. Hosting and care plans are billed annually in advance. Hosting is fully refundable for any unused portion.
