Potomac Technologies, LLC is committed to making potomactech.net usable by as many people as possible, regardless of ability or the technology they use to browse. This statement describes the standard we build to, the measures we have implemented, the limitations we are aware of, and how to contact us if you encounter a barrier.

Conformance target

We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA.

We state this as a target rather than a certification. Website content and the browsers and assistive technologies used to access it both change over time, and a page that conforms today may not conform after a future revision. We consider accessibility an ongoing obligation rather than a one-time assessment, and we prefer to describe our position accurately and be told when we fall short.

Measures implemented

Semantic markup. Content is structured with appropriate heading levels, lists and landmark regions. Each page contains a single first-level heading, and heading levels are not skipped.
Measured color contrast. Every text and border color in our stylesheet is documented with its computed contrast ratio. Body text exceeds the 4.5:1 minimum for normal text, and borders that identify a form field or button meet or exceed 3:1.
Information is not conveyed by color alone. Form validation errors are described in text rather than indicated solely by a change in color.
Labelled form controls. All form fields carry programmatically associated labels, and validation messages are exposed to assistive technology rather than presented visually only.
Visible focus indication. All interactive elements display a focus indicator designed to remain visible against both light and dark page sections.
Operation without JavaScript. The contact form and the client intake form both submit and report their results with scripting disabled.
Reduced page weight. The site uses no web fonts and no CSS framework, which reduces load times on older hardware and constrained connections.
Respect for motion preferences. Animation and smooth scrolling are disabled when a device requests reduced motion.
Unrestricted zoom. Page scaling is not disabled, and the layout reflows when text is enlarged.

Known limitations

We are aware of the following limitations and describe them here rather than omit them.

Third-party spam protection. Our forms use Cloudflare Turnstile, a third-party component whose markup and behavior are outside our control. If it prevents you from submitting a form, please contact us by telephone or text message and we will record your details directly.
Externally hosted PDF. Our IRS Form W-9 is a PDF hosted outside this site and may not be fully tagged for screen reader use. We will supply the same information in an alternative format on request.
No independent audit. Our assessment is conducted internally using automated tooling, keyboard navigation testing and programmatic contrast measurement. It has not been reviewed by an independent third party or by an auditor who uses assistive technology daily.
Limited assistive technology coverage. We have not tested every combination of screen reader, browser and operating system. Reports concerning a specific configuration are particularly useful to us.

Reporting a barrier

If you encounter content or functionality on this site that you cannot access, please tell us. Reports from people who have encountered an actual barrier are the most reliable information available to us, and we treat them as defects to be corrected.

Where possible, please indicate the page concerned, the task you were attempting, and the device, browser or assistive technology in use. A report that omits some of this detail is still welcome.

We aim to acknowledge reports within one business day and to advise you either that the issue has been resolved or when a resolution can be expected.
