One person, twenty-five years, and a long client list.
Potomac Technologies, LLC is owned and operated by Ross Nizlek. It is a genuinely small operation, but one with a long history of helping clients with a variety of technology challenges.
When you contact Potomac Technologies, you get Ross. He does the estimate, does the work, and answers the email afterwards. The upside is that the person who built your site is the person who picks up when it breaks at 9pm, and that our rates are a fraction of what an agency has to charge to cover its overhead.
The trade-off is availability. Weekday business hours are tight - most work happens in the evenings and at weekends, which suits a lot of clients better anyway (and allows for deployments to happen at times they are less likely to disrupt your business or your customers).
Ross started working in technology at the age of 13, launching a business - Next Generation Computer Help that offered basic computer skills tutoring to seniors in our community. The business took off and he gradually expanded his offerings to include computer support, repair, and website development services. While expansion was largely put on hold when he moved to attend the University of Vermont in 2005, he still has clients who he began working with in the late 1990s.

Our Timeline
- Late 1990s
A thirteen-year-old with a business card
Ross started working in technology at thirteen, running a small business teaching basic computer skills to older adults in his community. It grew, and the offering expanded into support, repair and eventually website development. Some of the clients from those years are still clients today.
- 2005
University of Vermont
Ross relocated to Burlington, VT to pursue a degree in Economics from the University of Vermont.
- 2009
Public transit IT
After graduating, Ross spent five years managing all IT systems for a public transit provider across five locations, including computers and servers, communications, and on vehicle technology.
- 2014
Washington, DC
Ross moves to DC to take a a role at a major travel company, shifting from technology into business strategy. For several years he also ran Skyhawk Ventures, an eBay and Amazon resale business, before winding that down as the margins thinned.
- 2020
The phone started ringing again
The pandemic hits. Old clients needed a website or an online store, and they need it ASAP. A few projects led to referrals, referrals led to more projects, and the business scaled into what it is today. Web development is now the majority of our business — the inverse of how things looked before 2020.
- 2025
Potomac Technologies, LLC
As the work kept growing, a more formal structure made sense. Potomac Technologies, LLC was formed in late 2025 and launched to clients on January 1, 2026.
Personal Life
Beyond the work
Ross calls the Brookland neighborhood of Washington, DC, home. When he’s not working, you can find him reading, running, cycling, or planning his next trip.
In 2022, he met an incredible woman, and the two became engaged in 2026. They currently share a home in Brookland, where they are loving life together and planning their upcoming wedding.
