About Potomac Technologies
Potomac Technologies, LLC, is owned and operated by Ross Nizlek.
Ross started working in technology at the age of 13, launching a business that offered basic computer skills tutoring to seniors his our community.
The business took off and he gradually expanded my offerings to include computer support, repair, and website development services. While expansion was largely put on hold when he moved to to attend the University of Vermont in 2005, he still has clients who he began working with in the late 1990s.
After graduating with a BA in Economics, Ross went to work for a public transit provider where he managed all of their IT systems for five years before moving to Washington, DC.
In 2014, Ross moved to DC to work for a major company in the travel and transportation space, shifting from a technology focused role to business strategy. For several years, he ran Skyhawk Ventures, a business selling on eBay and Amazon, but shifted away from that venture as profitable opportunities became harder to find.
Ross Nizlek Technology Services is launched
While Ross still maintained a small client base from his earlier days, he was largely content to help out the occasional client and his work revolved largely around computer systems administration and support.
Then the pandemic happened. Suddenly he was getting calls from old clients – they needed a new website or an online store and they needed it tomorrow. Meanwhile, his day job was suddenly looking less stable and it seemed wise to build another source of income. Ross took on a few website projects, which led to referrals to others, and the business scaled to what it is today. Web development now represents 80-90% of my work – the inverse of the days prior to 2020.
Potomac Technologies, LLC
As the technology business continued to expand, a more formal structure was needed. In late 2025, Ross formed Potomac Technologies, LLC to assume control of his technology consulting venture.
Ross’s Personal Life
Ross lives in the Brookland neighborhood of Washington, DC, and enjoys reading, running and cycling, and traveling in his free time.
In 2022, he met an incredible woman who is now his girlfriend of several years – they actively talk about building a life together here in the nation’s capital region.
